Quito, the capital of Ecuador, is a city of more than 2 million with a climate described as a "permanent spring"; despite its proximity to the equator, Quito's high altitude makes the air mild and pleasant year round.

Spaniards established the city of Quito in 1534, but before that it was an important city in the Inca Empire and other pre-Columbian civilizations. Quito's rich history is evident everywhere in its lovely plazas, churches and picturesque colonial streets. The city is seperated into three parts: the colonial center, the residential area, and the modern business district. In any area of the city you will enjoy a a low cost of living and high quality of life.

Quito is also a great starting point for traveling. Students can visit ancient ruins, archaeological museums, traditional markets, volcanos and even the incredible Galapagos Islands.
